Mattee DeMott (b. 2003) was born and raised in West Michigan where they have just received a Bachelor's of Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting from Grand Valley State University in 2026.
Their practice consists of multimedia painting and illustrations, as well as sculpture and installation based work that glorifies the disgusting and misrepresented parts of nature. Being raised in West Michigan, surrounded by wildlife and simultaneously seeing the negative impacts of human experience on the landscape, their work formed out of the desperate need for representation of the ignored. DeMott works to call attention to the animals and insects of the world that are often villainized and disregarded by broader media and culture, that sees bugs as nothing more than pests.
